Polly is one of my favourite names. It reminds me of 'pollyanna' a term used to describe someone who thinks something good will always happen and sees the positive in everything. The term comes from the book 'Pollyanna' published in 1913 by Eleanor Porter, which I haven't read though I'm something of pollyanna myself.
Sell my flowers at a shop? That could work! Sure!
Polly & Ralph are friends of a friend, and own a small organic market in a nearby neighbourhood. Polly had been following me on Facebook and when my husband popped in for some groceries, she said she'd love to sell my flowers.
Polly is crazy for flowers and positively gushed when I arrived with some super-cute sweet pea posies. (Posey is the kind of word Polly uses, of course). Delighted, the flowers sold out in day. This morning I delivered six more. Driving back, I wondered who would buy them and what they might think.
When I came home I checked my email, and noticed this note had arrived through the site:
"I just wanted you to know that I bought two of your beautiful sweet pea rich bouquets from the little grocery store on Oscar St for myself and my mom. She is 91 and lives in long term care here in Victoria. She spends a lot of time in her memories of a lovely flower garden that she and her father cultivated in Calgary and your bouquet was perfect to leave by her chair. The other sits in a jug on my kitchen counter where I am thoroughly enjoying it. I am delighted to hear of your journey to this place virtually and literally and am very glad I discovered you (and your fabulous flowers!)." ~Carol
I feel so grateful. So lucky and happy because you see: Good things do happen, particularly around flowers ;)
